In Summary

Kenya will see scattered rain from 24–30 March 2026, with amounts easing as the week progresses. Several regions face daytime heat above 30°C, while central highlands see cooler nights below 10°C.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast scattered rainfall across Kenya from 24 to 30 March 2026, with amounts expected to gradually reduce as the week progresses.

“Rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country, though amounts are likely to reduce as the week progresses,” the forecast indicated.

Residents in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western regions are expected to experience hot conditions, with daytime temperatures rising above 30°C.

These high temperatures are likely to persist through the week, posing heat-related risks for vulnerable populations and increasing the need for adequate hydration.

Meanwhile, cooler conditions are expected at night in the Central Highlands and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro, where temperatures could drop below 10°C.

“Cool nights (<10°C) are likely in parts of the Central Highlands and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro,” the report stated, emphasizing the contrast between daytime heat and nighttime chill in these regions.

Meteorologists advise the public to remain vigilant to changing weather conditions, particularly in areas prone to localized downpours, and to take precautions against both heat during the day and cold nights.

The forecast comes as the government issues flood warnings in Kisumu, Tana River, and Uasin Gishu counties after rivers burst their banks, causing extensive inundation in multiple communities.

In a statement on Tuesday,Ministry of Interior and National Administration said River Nyando has overflowed into areas including Kakola, Onjiko, Kochogo, East Kano, Okanja, Kamidumbi, and Panadol, while streams such as Awach, Agala, Nyalbiego, Chamrogi, and Nyaidho have also contributed to localized flooding.

Emergency teams, including the Kenya Coast Guard Service, Kenya Red Cross, and Kisumu County disaster management units, are conducting rescue operations as National Government Administrative Officers monitor river levels to prevent further escalation.

Rising waters in River Tana have flooded farms in Asako Village, Tana River County, while River Sosiani in Uasin Gishu has affected residential and hospitality areas.

According to the Interior Ministry, recent nationwide flash floods have resulted in 84 fatalities, with three people still missing, underscoring the severity of the situation.

Authorities warn that continued rainfall upstream may worsen flooding, and residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid low-lying areas, and relocate to higher ground where necessary.
